Two Wins in Canada for Local Wine

Earlier this month, Langanook Wines from the Bendigo Wine Region received two prestigious international awards for their locally grown wines at the Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada competition in Canada.

The 2005 Langanook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded a Gold medal and the 2005 Syrah gained a Silver medal.  This Quebec based Wine Show is the largest international wine competition in North America.

The Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada wine tasting competition was created in Canada in 1983 and today continues to qualify as one of the oldest and most important wine competitions in the world.  This year there were 2100 entries from 30 countries.

"It is a thrill to be awarded these prestigious awards for my wine" said Matt Hunter, Langanook Wines winemaker and owner.  "The huge amount of work that goes into making quality wine is certainly recognised by this level of acknowledgement."

This recent success is the result of more than 20 years development of the vineyard and winemaking at Langanook.  Winemaker Matt Hunter is particular in presenting wines of the highest quality.

LONDON PRIZES FOR BENDIGO WINES

Three Bendigo Wine region wines were awarded prestigious Silver Medals (best in class) at The International Wine and Spirit Competition in London last week.  These wines included Balgownie Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, Sheer Drop Wines Shiraz 2004 and Langanook Syrah 2005.

The International Wine & Spirit Competition was founded in 1969 and is the premier competition of its kind on the international stage.  Its aim is to promote the quality and excellence of the world's best wines, spirits and liqueurs.

All wines, spirits and liqueurs are blind tasted in groups divided by variety, region and vintage as necessary.  Entries to the competition must be available in commercial quantities to eliminate the possibility of "show" products participating and must be from an identifiable batch or lot. The competition is unique in that all medal winners are subject to technical analysis before results are released.

Grand Gold Prize in Canada for Local Wine.

Riding high on the success of this year's recent Bendigo Winemakers Festival in the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens where almost 2,500 people sampled the best selection of Bendigo wines, Langanook Wines are thrilled to have received two prestigious international awards for their locally grown wines.

The 2004 Langanook Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded a Grand Gold medal in the Sélections Mondiales de Vins Canada and the Shiraz gained a Gold medal. This Quebec based Wine Show is the largest international wine competition in North America.

The Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada wine tasting competition was created in Canada in 1983 and today continues to qualify as one of the oldest and most important wine competitions in the world.

This year there were 1700 entries from 28 countries and only 10 Grand Gold Medals were awarded across all classes for wines scoring more than 93 points/100. The Langanook Cabernet Sauvignon scored 96.5 points which was the second top wine in the whole competition.

As a response to such high commendations, wine is leaving Langanook Wines in Central Victoria for Montreal this week and Toronto have expressed an interest in the Cabernet Sauvignon as well. When these wines reach the wine lists in Canadian restaurants they will retail for $100.

This recent success is the result of more than 20 years development of the vineyard and winemaking at Langanook. Winemaker Matt Hunter is fastidious in presenting wines of the highest quality.

Langanook Wines is located in the granite hills just to the south of Mt Alexander in Sutton Grange. Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon were first planted by Matt in 1985. The cellar door is at 91 McKittericks Road, Sutton Grange and is open on weekends and public holidays from 11am to 5pm.
